video

My video portfolio showcases a video created from a narrated script. Before this project the only video content I had experience with was with the promo video that you can find in another project folder. This video was my favorite project of the semester. It features my sorority sisters and my sorority hall. GO DELTA GAMMA!

Narrative Video

In this video you will see two characters sneaking into “DG’s sacred grounds” while trying to not get caught by the chapters president who lives next door. They get in the room, talk for a bit, and then you see the president and another DG pop their head in to catch them!

The featured actors are : Scout Phillips, Beth Ludy, Julia Davis, and Rylee Holt.

For this project we were given a narrative script written by my professor, Nathan Dains, that we could interpret how we pleased. I brainstormed several different ideas and angels I could go with for this particular story. I ended up having to choose between four different ideas. I chose this one because it proximity and the people I wanted to be my actors. I only changed the wording a little in three lines to make my story flow.

pre-reduction: to filming this I created a shot list, highlighted when which character would speak, sketched out a story board and my camera angles. I made sure to include a variety of shots that I learned how to take in the photography assignment at the beginning of the semester.

production: I filmed these shots on my Nicon Camera, and it was not the easiest. I wanted to keep the lighting dim to add the mysterious affect of them trying to be sneaky, but it threw off the white balance and because I wanted a variety of shots the location of the lamp also affected that lighting in some of the shots. I made sure to do each scene at least two times, some more, to make sure I would have enough material to edit if I needed to edit anything.

post production: I had previously put together a video for the promo video i mentioned earlier in the class so putting together this one was not difficult. I felt more familiar with premier pro this go around. I added some music to it to add suspense, but mostly let the story unfold on it’s own.

what I learned: overall, from this project i learned to be confident in what I do. I have learned a lot in this class and I actually do (kinda) know what I am talking about. From writing scripts, to pre-production, to putting the whole thing together I was not clueless once. Now uploading things to box…still not my strong suite. I also loved filming these shots! It could have been that the actors made it fun, but being behind the camera and telling people what to do was pretty cool too.
