My portfolio showcases various projects created throughout my time in college. In this space I am uploading my photography content from the beginning of the semester, to the end. You can see how my photography skills have grown over the course of just one semester. I am finishing up a Mass Communications class that focused in media production. This is where I learned that there is more to Photography than just a camera and photographer.
Assignment 1 : Photography Photoshop
In the first project of the semester we had to shoot the following photos in landscape orientation- paying attention to proper framing, exposure, white balance, and focus:
- Extreme Wide Shot (establishing shot, featuring a building or landmark)
- Full Shot (subject framed head-to-toe)
- Medium Shot (subject framed just above waist to top of head)
- Medium Close-Up Shot (aka Bust Shot/2-Button Shot, subject framed about mid-chest to top of head)
- Close-Up (subject framed just below chin to middle of forehead)
- Macro Shot (close up shot of a detail or texture)
we then created a reference poster labeling and describing each of the shots we took.
I felt more comfortable shooting then I did with the Photoshop portion of this assignment. Although I would not classify these shots as my best work. I used my roommate, Scout Phillips, as my model. The pictures could have been better. The poster itself is also not the best; the background color, font, and position of the photos are pretty good. The pictures and the fading pink stars were not the best asset to the overall theme of the page.
What I learned: From this project and this class i learned shot types, how to take them, proper angles, framing, and composition. How to use lighting, color, and standard presets on my camera. This helped me learn how to navigate my camera and better take pictures. I have always been a “picture person” and because of this class and my new found knowledge in photography I can make my pictures even better.
